  • When a new show comes out, take an hour or two to get to know it. Perhaps it’ll turn out to be not your thing at all, but at least you’ll be able to argue your point of view.
  • The same applies to the hot new stuff in the gaming industry. It’s not necessary to play something on the stream, you can try it out on your own first. In order to have something to talk about and keep up the conversation with the audience. On top of that, after playing alone for a little while, you’ll be able to assess the prospects of a particular game for your stream and understand whether it’s fit for your channel, or not.
  • Stay informed of what’s new in music, suggest some new tracks on your stream. Maybe someone is crazy about that new song of your favorite band just as much as you.
  • And it is, of course, important to understand the global things happening in the world. Subscribe to a YouTube channel, where once a week a brief summary of the main news from different areas will be covered. Watching such a video will only take 10 to 15 minutes a week and will significantly expand your horizons.

Explore the iconic works that different age groups can relate to.

  • You may have viewers of different generations on your stream. People whose gaming history didn’t start with CS:GO or Genshin Impact, but with Lineage, Counter-Strike, The Sims, Might and Magic 9, Final Fantasy or Gothic. Check out the iconic old school games. Choose some of the most interesting ones for yourself and despite the old graphics, try to play them through and get yourself immersed in the same feelings that older gamers had before this hobby became mainstream. You’ll definitely have something to discuss with your subs this way. You'd be surprised by the number of people who are nostalgic for the old days.

  • By the way, you can do the same drill with those old movies that you’ve heard about 1000 times, but still haven’t watched. Attention should also be paid to your younger audience. Perhaps you are already creating for a grown-up audience and you kinda look down upon the stuff children and teenagers are interested in. But if there are younger viewers among your audience, then try to get over yourself and give Winx Club a chance. And along with the shows of your youth like Buffy, Charmed and Gossip Girl, give Euphoria and Elite a try, too. Try to understand the way the new generation lives. Even if you don't like it, at least you can try to explain what you think is wrong with the modern day shows.
  • Well, if in your class watching anime was a thing for losers and you still have zero titles on your list, it's time to fix it. By the way, it would be a nice move to ask your gang what they would recommend watching as the first anime.

Grow in a hobby unrelated to your activities as a content creator.

Maybe you stream Fortnite and think viewers don't care about your collection of stamps or pokemon cards. Go ahead and try to tell them about it. You can start with a couple of stories: how did you get the rarest of them or just some funny stories related to the collection. Then you can tell about how you got started with it. Show the fruits of your passion to the folks. What if you find like-minded people, or maybe someone will even join in and help your collection grow. There is nothing wrong with being labeled as a streamer with hobbies. “Hey, this is that dude that has a $50,000 worth stamp collection”, or “this is the same LOLer who climbed Kilimanjaro”. If you have no other hobbies - then look for them, try different things, talk about it. Your personal brand needs to be spiced, and third-party hobbies can be one good way to do it.

Being a streamer is above all about personality, and not merely about a setup or that new trendy game. To hold an audience, to become a role model and an opinion leader, you must have a strong personality. Don't be shy about your views, share them, discuss them. Learn new things and develop constantly. If you are tall in the saddle, do not think that it’ll always be like this. Do not stagnate along with your audience, but instead lead it forward, become the best version of yourselves together!
